Word Document Templates

Accessible templates using MCC brand colors are available in the following folder: M:\Offices\Shared\TYPO3 Training Materials\word-templates-and-instructions. A PDF instruction sheet with screenshots is included in this folder as well.

Adding MCC Templates to Word

  1. Copy the templates from the M Drive to the following folder on your computer: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Custom Office Templates folder. (You may need to create this folder if it doesn’t already exist.)
    • Replace “[username]” with your name, such as “jsmith”.
  2. After copying the templates, open Microsoft Word. If you don’t see a Personal option link when choosing a template for a New document, the file location on the computer isn’t mapped. To map the location:
    1. Go to File > Options > Save
    2. In the “Default personal templates location,” enter “C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Custom Office Templates\”. (You can copy this path from Windows Explorer by opening the folder and copying the address in the field above the file list.)
    3. Click “OK” to save your changes.
  3. Select one of the MCC templates to create your new document.

Adding Templates to Existing Documents

If you already started a document or are updating an existing document, you can still apply one of the MCC templates.

Add the Developer Tab to the Top Ribbon

If you do not see the developer tab in the top ribbon, it can easily be added.

  1. Go to File > Options.
  2. Select Customize Ribbon.
  3. Under Main Tabs, select the Developer checkbox, and then choose OK.

Adding a Template to Existing Documents

  1. Open the Word Document you’d like to update.
  2. Go to the Developer tab.
  3. Choose Document template > Attach.
  4. Browse to the Custom Office Templates directory, choose a template, and select Open.
  5. Check “Automatically update document styles” to apply the template styles to your existing content.
  6. Click OK.

Clearing Content Styles

Does your existing document not look quite right? Did the new styles only apply to some of the content? You can either select sections or select all and clear formatting.

  1. Highlight a section or select all (CTRL + A) of the content.
  2. Go to the Home tab in the tool ribbon and expand the Styles menu.
  3. Choose Clear Formatting at the bottom of the menu.

Also, when pasting from another source, choosing Merge Formatting in the Paste options should properly style the pasted copy from another document, if there is a matching style name in the menu.

Applying Styles

As you create and edit your document, use the Styles menu to format your text for everything from headings to bulleted lists.

  1. To apply a style to content, select the desired text.
  2. From the Home tab in the tool ribbon, expand the Styles menu.
  3. Select the desired style from the menu.
