Web & Social Media Rules

You won’t see “E plurbus unum” on the monroecc.edu home page, but the motto fits. Out of many pages, we are one website. Because we have so many pages, we need rules to make sure no matter where visitors are on the website, they know they are at MCC.

By following these rules, protocols (PDF), policies, and guidelines, we:

  • ensure visitors get around easily and find what they need.
  • protect the college and its web visitors from harm by hackers and others.
  • manage the website more effectively.

When you want to refresh your area of the website, check here for regulations that apply to the work you plan to do. Then, contact the Marketing, Web and Social Media office explaining what you need and we’ll go from there.

You’ll also see social media guidelines below, in case you want to start a social media channel for your department.

Web Pages & Applications Representing College Units Protocol

The Web Pages & Applications Representing College Units Protocol (PDF) is the granddaddy of website protocols. It lays out “key principles to ensure the accuracy, consistency, integrity and quality of information and to protect the College’s identity and image.” Read it to get the big picture of why we need to manage the website closely.

Web Page Standards

Unit-level web page standards help you put the Web Pages Protocol into practice. This page lays out website structure and navigation to follow.

Web Liaisons Protocol

When you have questions about your responsibilities as a web editor, read the Web Liaisons Protocol (PDF). If you’re assigning a new web liaison, this protocol will come in handy too.

Contracting with External Web Vendors

Read Requirements & Process for Contracting with External Web Vendors (PDF) and fill out the form in the document before you pursue outside resources to update your area of the web. Perhaps we can do the work in-house. Or a colleague is already using the external vendor you need, and we can leverage that contract to save money.

Web Platform Guidelines

Read Web Platform Functional Guidelines when you’re thinking about the best web platform for your content. WWW web pages are mainly for external audiences. WordPress sites can be for internal or external audiences and myMCC and its companion Brightspace are for internal audiences.

Supported Web Tools

Sure, free outside web tools like Google Drive and Evite are easy to set up. But they can expose web visitors and the college to security and privacy dangers.  So, don’t use them. Instead, check Supported Web Tools for equivalent and dependable in-house web tools.

Social Media Protocol

Representing MCC on social media is a big responsibility. The Social Media Protocol (PDF) outlines the process for starting and managing an MCC social media account. Fill out the companion form, Social Media Account Proposal (PDF), to give the College’s social media team details of your plans.
