Students, Faculty to Lead MCC-Hosted Community Dialogue on War in Ukraine

WHAT: Moderated by a mix of students and faculty, a Monroe Community College-hosted forum today will advance the conversation about the war in Ukraine and engage participants in robust political and democratic discourse on how the United States can best respond to the conflict.
The forum “A Deliberative Dialogue on the War in Ukraine: How Should the United States Respond?” will discuss three possible options and associated actions: minimal intervention, continued sanctions and diplomacy, and military intervention. Attendees will collaboratively evaluate the issue and have the opportunity to consider the drawbacks and trade-offs associated with each option and action.
WHERE: R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center (main dining area) on MCC’s Brighton Campus, 1000 E. Henrietta Road; parking is provided in lot V.

DETAILS: Free and open to the public, the forum is organized by The Democracy Commitment at MCC and the office of Global Education and International Services. Because the forum will take the form of a deliberative dialogue, it will be driven by the contributions of those in attendance. Moderators are trained in presiding at dialogues on topics that could be polarizing in society.
MCC has hosted annual Deliberative Dialogues since 2018 in encouraging greater civility in discussions on daunting problems that involve examining the costs and consequences of possible solutions and what we, as a society, would or would not accept as a solution.
