More Than 1,800 MCC Students to Earn Degrees and Certificates
May 3, 2021
WHAT: Monroe Community College’s 58th annual Commencement ceremony will be a virtual celebration for the more than 1,800 graduates who will earn degrees and certificates as members of the MCC class of 2021. The event will feature a student keynote speaker for the first time in recent MCC history.
WHEN: 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20
DETAILS: ■ Incoming MCC President DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna, Ph.D., will deliver congratulatory greetings to the graduates.
■ The Message to the Graduates will be delivered by Kimberly McKinsey-Mabry, Ed.D., acting vice president of Student Services and an MCC alumna (class of 1995).
Dr. McKinsey-Mabry believes her success in the field of higher education is a direct result of beginning her academic studies at MCC. After her first, fall semester at MCC, she became a first-time mom and returned to her studies the following semester, determined to earn a college degree. She holds a doctoral degree in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College, a master’s in business administration from Metropolitan College of New York, a bachelor’s in community and human service management from Empire State College, and an associate degree in liberal arts and human services from MCC.
■ Inaugural student speaker Soleil Williams, who will earn an associate degree in human services, returned to MCC in fall 2019 after putting her college education on pause for six years. A parent of 5-year-old and 3-year-old daughters, she plans to continue her studies in social work at SUNY Brockport toward a career as a licensed social worker. Soleil is among more than 2,000 student-parents who attend MCC.
