MCC Students Promote a Sense of Community Pride and Inclusiveness through Original Photography Exhibition
April 27, 2021
Hosted by MCC’s Institute for the Humanities, event includes interactive, virtual forum
WHAT: To instill a sense of pride in our region’s rich history of activism, Monroe Community College’s Institute for the Humanities engaged students, educators and local multimedia artists to explore how lessons from the past can help us build a more inclusive community.
The project culminates in a virtual forum and photography exhibition, “Culture, History, and Memory: Bridging Rochester’s Past and Present.” Wednesday’s event will focus on the crossroads of politics, history, and photography and the ways photographic images have helped shape our understanding of historical figures and events.
MCC photography and political science students worked together to identify photographs and quotes of historic figures such as Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Hester Jeffrey, and others on Rochester landmarks, including Baden Street Settlement House, Corinthian Hall and Memorial AME Zion Church, to create the exhibition.
WHERE: Register online to attend or contact Rosanna Yule at ryule@monroecc.edu for assistance.
WHEN: Noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28; the photographic exhibition is online now and will remain online following the event.
