Monroe Community College President and Board of Trustees Chair Named to National Committee

May 5, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.- May 5, 2026 –  New America’s Future of Work & Innovation Economy initiative and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT)’s Center for Policy & Practice named Monroe Community College President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna and Board of Trustees Chair Allen K. Williams to its Advisory Committee on Economic & Workforce Development. They will join five other community college presidents and board trustee pairs from Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas. Committee members were chosen for their high performance in regional economic and workforce development.

“I am honored to be a part of this innovative approach to realizing the full potential of president-trustee partnerships as a critical tool in bolstering economic and workforce development, as we have demonstrated here at Monroe Community College,” said Monroe Community College President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna. “We are privileged to be recognized for our expertise and being instrumental in helping other community colleges catalyze bright futures for their communities and their people.”

“This is a testament to our mission and vision of transforming lives and communities through affordable and innovative academic, career, technical, and workforce development programs,” said Monroe Community College Board of Trustees Chair Allen K. Williams. “We are humbled to be a part of helping others do the same.”

The committee’s primary role is to support New America and ACCT leadership’s initiative to conduct a first-of-its-kind survey of community college trustees to identify promising practices in trustee leadership for institutional capacity-building related to economic and workforce development. The survey will also assess trustees’ needs for leadership development in institutional capacity-building, informing future research, technical assistance, and leadership development offerings that the two organizations will jointly develop to support the ACCT membership.

The appointment to the trustee advisory committee is for a year. In addition to serving on this committee, President Burt-Nanna is also on the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors.
