(Rochester, NY) — Today, Congressman Joe Morelle was joined by Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Monroe Community College (MCC) President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna to announce a $3.5 million Community Project Funding award to expand MCC’s Applied Technologies Center (ATC). Congressman Morelle worked alongside Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to secure the funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations Package.

“By providing opportunities through hands-on training, apprenticeships and career guides, the MCC Applied Technologies Center is already producing much-needed talent for our regional workforce,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “Now, thanks to $3.5 million in funding I helped secure, they’ll be able to expand highly successful programs housed in ATC to help connect more students with the tools, resources and experience they need to thrive in the workforce. I’m grateful to President Burt-Nanna and County Executive Bello for envisioning this project, as well as Senators Schumer and Gillibrand for their partnership in delivering funding for this program that will help strengthen our local economy and create opportunity for working families.”

“MCC is focused on strengthening the talent pipeline to ensure a robust technician workforce moving forward across the Finger Lakes region. With federal funding support, MCC will be able to offer increased opportunities for more residents, especially those in historically underrepresented communities, to earn industry-recognized credentials and immediately begin high-demand careers that pay family-sustaining wages,” said MCC President DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna, Ph.D. “We are grateful to Representative Morelle and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand for their leadership and support toward lifting up residents across all ZIP codes and bolstering our regional economy.”

“In Monroe County, we are developing our workforce for the future. This critical investment in the new ATC facility at Monroe Community College will help our residents develop the skills they need to secure good-paying jobs in high-demand fields,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “I am grateful to Congressman Morelle, Senator Schumer, and Senator Gillibrand for securing these funds so we can invest in our local workforce and create more equitable opportunities for our residents.”

US Senator Charles Schumer said, “I’m proud to have worked alongside Congressman Morelle and Senator Gillibrand to secure this funding for MCC and students across our region. Monroe County is renowned for its strong workforce, and the Applied Technologies Center has been an invaluable asset in helping to provide the community’s next generation of optics, advanced manufacturing, and skilled trade workers with the resources they need to succeed. With these jobs so much in demand, this expansion will enable MCC to create more opportunities, provide more resources, and help boost the county’s economy for years to come.”

“I am proud to have helped secure $3.5 million in federal funding for Monroe Community College’s Applied Technologies Center,” said US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “These funds will expand MCC’s Applied Technologies Center, strengthen the center’s workforce development programs, help create new jobs, and offer more economic opportunities in the region.”

The Applied Technologies Center at Monroe Community College offers students in-demand career opportunities through technical education and industry-based training. The new center will offer additional programming related to automotive technologies; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; precision machining; and optical systems technology to serve more MCC students.

The project proposal and summary is available on Rep. Morelle’s website.
