Event Details: Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna to be Inaugurated MCC’s 6th President

Lt. Gov. Delgado, County Executive Bello, Rochester Mayor Evans scheduled to speak 

WHAT:           Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna will be inaugurated as Monroe Community College’s sixth president in a formal ceremony reflecting the theme “Transforming Together!”

WHEN:           2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22

WHERE:        Samuel J. Stabins Physical Education Complex (Building 10),
MCC Brighton Campus, 1000 E. Henrietta Road.  Parking is provided in lot G.

The ceremony will also be viewable via live video stream; a link will be posted on the MCC homepage an hour prior to the start of the program.

DETAILS:       The occasion will reflect President Burt-Nanna’s commitment to students, educational access and excellence, civic engagement, and inclusion and collaboration. All attendees are encouraged to participate in a service project. In addition, the presidential inaugural event will showcase MCC’s diversely talented college community. Highlights include:

                       

  • Processional that will include representatives from MCC student clubs and organizations, as well as student-athletes and resident-students. Representatives will process with the community organizations they have partnered with to positively impact local, national and global communities.
  • A song titled “The Great Installation: An Epic Journey Begins,” which incorporates a fusion of Nigerian drum music, urban gospel, and inspiring messages. Composed by MCC faculty member Rollo Fisher and performed by the MCC College Chorus, the piece is a nod to the birthplace of President Burt-Nanna’s husband, Pastor Wilson “Joseph” Nanna.
  • A spoken word performance, “Transformative Inspirations: A Collection of Inspiring Quotes to Celebrate Change,” presented by students in MCC’s theatre arts program.
  • The presidential medallion designed and created by members of the college’s Applied Technologies Department. The medallion is a unique, beautifully crafted symbol that represents both the authority of the presidency and the collaborative talents of MCC students, faculty and staff.
  • Inaugural address by President Burt-Nanna.

 

In addition, the ceremony will include remarks from:

  • New York Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado
  • Monroe County Executive Adam Bello
  • Rochester Mayor Malik Evans
  • Allen Williams, MCC Board of Trustees chair
  • Mia Le, student trustee
  • Pastor Joseph Nanna, who will deliver benediction.
  • Elder Duane E. Bennett of Mount Zion Church of God In Christ in Michigan, formerly President Burt-Nanna’s pastor who will deliver invocation

 

The president’s inauguration will also mark a new beginning for MCC. It coincides with the 60th anniversary of when MCC opened its doors for the first time to students at the Alexander Street campus.
