MCC to Suspend Face-to-Face Classes, Reduce Campus Access to Only Critical Personnel until Further Notice
March 17, 2020
All academic programs will shift fully to distance learning as possible; Public Safety Training Facility will restrict access to only Monroe County COVID-19 crisis management personnel
In response to recent developments in Monroe County related to the COVID-19 outbreak, Monroe Community College will temporarily cease all face-to-face instruction college-wide and limit access at all its locations indefinitely, including at the Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF). As of Wednesday, March 18, at 5 p.m., MCC sites will be closed to all but critical staff until further notice.
Starting Monday, March 23, MCC will transition to distance-learning options while providing remote support services to students. A call center (585-292-8310 or covid19response@monroecc.edu) has been established for students, employees and others who need assistance, including technology support, tutoring and library resources. (MCC libraries and on-campus learning centers are closed to students.) Classes are canceled this week, March 16-21, to allow faculty and staff to fully prepare for the transition.
The preventive measures taken at MCC are in step with the directive to temporarily close the PSTF, a regional emergency training facility located at 1190 Scottsville Road in Chili, effective March 16.
The PSTF is closed until further notice at the direction of Dr. Jeremy Cushman, EMS medical director for Monroe County, and in conjunction with and support of the Monroe County Department of Public Health.
All training activities and recruit academies—including police, fire, emergency medical services, corrections, probation, court and special police—are canceled indefinitely. The PSTF Rush Firearms Range, 492 Stonybrook Road in Rush, is also closed after March 16. Academic programming will continue through distance learning where appropriate.
The Monroe County Office of Emergency Management at the PSTF will be open for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis and will be supported by the PSTF staff. The building will be accessible only to personnel associated with the Office of Emergency Management. The PSTF is a partnership of Monroe County, City of Rochester and MCC.
There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at MCC at this time. MCC is taking action to reduce the density of exposure on campus in an effort to slow the spread of the illness.
College updates, including a list of canceled events and suspended services, will continue to be available on www.monroecc.edu.
