Mail Art Exhibition: Exquisite Corpses

December 2 through December 23, 2005
Opening Reception: Friday, December 2, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Exquisite Corpse is a method by which words or images are collectively assembled, the result being the exquisite corpse, or cadavre exquis in French. It is a technique used by surrealists, and is based on an old parlor game called Consequences in which players wrote or draw in turn on a sheet of paper, folded the paper to conceal part of the writing or drawing, and then passed the paper to the next player for a further contribution. We are inviting participants to work in groups to compose a drawing based on human or animal form, folding the paper in thirds to acknowledge where the following lines must begin. All work will be exhibited and documented. No work will be returned.
