Whether you add an image or remove some text, you will need to run the Accessibility Checker in Word followed by running the Accessibility Report in Adobe Acrobat. Checking for accessibility is an ongoing process!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Make sure you&#8217;ve included the following to create an accessible base document:<\/p>\n<ol>\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/web-standards\/accessibility\/create-accessible-content\/create-accessible-content-documents\/accessible-word-documents\/\">Added a title<\/a> to the document.<\/li>\n\t<li>Used <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/web-standards\/accessibility\/create-accessible-content\/create-accessible-content-documents\/accessible-word-documents\/headings-lists-and-spacing\/\">proper heading structure<\/a>.<\/li>\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/web-standards\/accessibility\/create-accessible-content\/create-accessible-content-documents\/accessible-word-documents\/headings-lists-and-spacing\/#lists\">Applied list styles<\/a>.\n\n<ul>\n\t<li>Also, applied the correct <em>type<\/em> of list &#8211; bulleted or ordered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\t<li><a id=\"color\"><\/a>Use proper contrast &#8211; black text on a white background. Refer to our page on <a title=\"Opens an internal link in the current window\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/web-standards\/accessibility\/create-accessible-content\/create-accessible-content-documents\/text-color\/\">text color<\/a> for additional information.<\/li>\n\t<li>Ensured all images have <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/web-standards\/accessibility\/create-accessible-content\/create-accessible-content-documents\/accessible-word-documents\/meaningful-hyperlink-and-alt-text\/#alttext\"><em>meaningful<\/em> alt text<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When you are done editing your document, review your document to ensure that it meets WCAG 2.0 AA requirements.\u00a0There are a number of checklists available to assist with this. Run Word&#8217;s built-in <a title=\"Opens external link in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-ie\/article\/improve-accessibility-with-the-accessibility-checker-a16f6de0-2f39-4a2b-8bd8-5ad801426c7f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accessibility Checker<\/a>. <a title=\"Opens external link in new window\" href=\"https:\/\/webaim.org\/resources\/evaloffice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WebAIM&#8217;s Word and PowerPoint checklist<\/a> includes explanations of some of the alerts you might get from Microsoft&#8217;s Accessibility Checker. Select \u201cCheck Accessibility.\u201d (See Figure 1.)<\/li>\n\t<li>In the Accessibility Checker task pane, click on the items under Errors and Warnings for information on how to resolve the issues.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Microsoft&#8217;s Accessibility Checker does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong> follow WCAG standards.
