Building Urgency and Making the Case for Change (Pre-Institute Presentation)

Rob Johnstone, Founder and President  of National Center for Inquiry & Improvement (NCII) presents historical data that has driven the movement toward guided pathways. This session was open to all of SUNY and took place prior to the start of Institute #1.

Guided Pathways: Equity, Economic Mobility, & ROI for Institutions

Rob Johnstone presents data specific to the institutions in cohort I. This session focuses on case making and building urgency for guided pathways implementation at SUNY community colleges. This session was the opening of the SUNY Guided Pathways Institutes, Institute #1 and includes a brief overview of guided pathways and other student success initiatives across SUNY by Johanna Duncan-Poitier, SUNY Senior Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges & the Educational Pipeline. The session opened with welcome and introduction of speakers by Dr. Anne Kress, President of Monroe Community College.

Where Do We Start?

Dr. Andrea Wade, Provost & Vice President of Academic Services at Monroe Community College and Dr. Maryrose Eannace, Vice President for Learning and Academic Affairs at Mohawk Valley Community College share their journey into and through early guided pathways implementation at their colleges. Both MCC and MVCC have participated in the national guided pathways project with the American Association of Community Colleges and are partnering to lead the SUNY Guided Pathways Institutes.

Measuring (and Improving) the Impact of Guided Pathways Reform

Dr. Davis Jenkins, Senior Research Scholar at the Community College Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University wrote the book that eventually launched guided pathways as a national reform movement (Redesigning America’s Community Colleges). In this session, Dr. Jenkins presents the data that drove the continued research in that book and how guided pathways has already shown success in early returns.
