{"id":221,"date":"2024-03-07T11:27:47","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T16:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/?page_id=221"},"modified":"2026-01-14T14:13:53","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T19:13:53","slug":"trustee-section-i-the-election-commission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/sga-election-resources\/student-trustee-election-rules\/trustee-section-i-the-election-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Section I \u2013 The Election Commission (Student Trustee)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Section I \u2013 The Election Commission<\/h1>\n<ol type=\"A\">\n\t<li>Authority<br>\nThese rules shall govern the conduct of candidates during elections for all elected student positions established in the <a title=\"Opens PDF in new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monroecc.edu\/fileadmin\/SiteFiles\/GeneralContent\/depts\/stucenter\/documents\/SGA-Constitution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">Constitution (PDF)<\/a> and <a title=\"Opens PDF in new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monroecc.edu\/fileadmin\/SiteFiles\/GeneralContent\/depts\/stucenter\/documents\/SGA_By-Laws.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">By-Laws (PDF)<\/a> of the Monroe Community College Student Government Association.\u00a0 All interpretations of these rules are at the discretion of the Elections Commission; such decisions are final.\u00a0 Appeals on their decisions may be made to the Student Government Association Senate.\u00a0 These rules may not be changed between the first day of filing for office and commencement day.<\/li>\n\t<li>Appointment<br>\nThe Elections Coordinator shall be appointed by the President and approved by the Senate.\u00a0 Ideally, appointments shall take place no later than the first week of November.<\/li>\n\t<li>Membership<br>\nThe Elections Commission shall consist of four members, including the Elections Coordinator and three other members appointed by the Elections Coordinator (these can be any member of the student body).\u00a0 Candidates for elected office in the Student Government Association are required to be in good academic and disciplinary standing (at least a 2.25 GPA).<\/li>\n\t<li>Term of Office<br>\nThe Elections Commission shall serve until commencement day.<\/li>\n\t<li>Vacancy of the Elections Coordinator <br>\nThe Student Government Association President shall appoint a new Elections Coordinator when needed, with approval of the Senate.<\/li>\n\t<li>Responsibilities<br>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n\t<li>Elections Coordinator<br>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n\t<li>Shall ensure that all Elections Commissioners fulfill their obligations as outlined in this section.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall set all meeting dates and shall preside over all meetings. (Elections Coordinator shall vote only in case of a tie.)<\/li>\n\t<li>Is responsible to report all actions taken by the Elections Commission to the President and Senate.<\/li>\n\t<li>Write summation of election before commencement day.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall inform and distribute to all candidates, at an Election Workshop, all rules, forms, documents and information associated with the election process.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall distribute all election materials and accept and file all transaction records.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall monitor electioneering in order to ensure that all candidates are aware of, and do not violate off-limits areas.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall accept and file all records submitted by the candidates pertaining to authorized agents.<\/li>\n\t<li>In conjunction with the Commissioner in Charge of Publicity, shall publicize the election, which shall include available offices and eligibility requirements, materials available, poll worker positions, filing dates, polling places, voting times and procedures, and any other publicity required. Publicity should include, but is not limited to, the following:\n\n<ul>\n\t<li>Placing posters and flyers at strategic locations across campus.<\/li>\n\t<li>Distribution of pertinent information regarding the elections to: WMCC, Student and Faculty\/Staff Tribunes, and any other on-campus media.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall begin publicizing April 17, 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\t<li>Elections Commissioner in Charge of Publicity \u2013 Candidates<br>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n\t<li>Shall be very knowledgeable of the publicity\/promotion rules herein.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall develop and implement a publicity campaign to and materials to inform the student body of available positions at least one month prior to packet due date.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall ensure all poster boards and supplies are purchased at least one week prior to poster due date.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall work with Elections Coordinator and Director of Student Life to certify appropriateness of all materials submitted by candidates.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall have written report to Elections Coordinator regarding no later than 2 weeks after election.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\t<li>Elections Commissioner in Charge of Publicity \u2013 Processes<br>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n\t<li>Shall be very knowledgeable of the publicity\/promotion rules herein.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\t<li>Elections Commissioner in Charge of Votes<br>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n\t<li>Shall fulfill all obligations of <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/sga-election-resources\/student-trustee-election-rules\/trustee-sectio-v-campaign-practices\/\">Section V<\/a> of these election rules.\u00a0<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall work with Elections Coordinator in \u201cGet Out the Vote\u201d effort.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall report to Elections Coordinator.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall have written report to Elections Coordinator regarding committee no later than 2 weeks after election.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\t<li>Elections Commissioner in Charge of Disputes<br>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n\t<li>Shall accept, copy and file all complaints according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/sga-election-resources\/student-trustee-election-rules\/trustee-section-vi-disputes\/\">Section VI<\/a> with the Elections Coordinator.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall call special meetings of the Elections Commission to resolve disputes.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall investigate all complaints.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall report to Elections Coordinator.<\/li>\n\t<li>Shall have written report to Elections Coordinator regarding committee no later than 2 weeks after election.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Section I \u2013 The Election Commission Authority These rules shall govern the conduct of candidates during elections for all elected student positions established in the Constitution (PDF) and By-Laws (PDF) of the Monroe Community College Student Government Association.\u00a0 All interpretations of these rules are at the discretion of the Elections Commission; such decisions are final.\u00a0 [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":665,"featured_media":0,"parent":216,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-221","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/221","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/665"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=221"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/221\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":691,"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/221\/revisions\/691"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/216"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/sga\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=221"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
