Reports

  1. President Romero

On Monday, March 3rd, President Romero attended a meeting with Student Life Advisor Jodi Oriel, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Calvin Gantt, and Professors Joseph Scanlon and Professor Muhlnickel. They discussed an event sometime in April regarding some educational conversation and dialogue around the current executive orders and what is happening across the country. Everyone taking part in this has a role in it, and there will be more events like this later in the year, especially during the Fall 2025 Semester. Later on, the day, President Romero gave his report at the Board of Trustee’s Meeting, where he reported on what his team did on advocacy day, which legislators they spoke with, and what they all advocated for. The board would also see the video of President Romero’s speech on the million-dollar staircase, where he represented Community Colleges at the Press Conference. On Wednesday, March 5th, President Romero held a meeting with his election committee, which included Treasurer Demir, Student Relations Senator Simba, and Health & Wellness Senator Wrobeh. This meeting entailed going over how the election process will look throughout the semester, the rules, and the dates and times for all the important times. One reminder to those who are returning: please apply for elections! On Friday, March 7th, he attended two committee meetings. The first was the constitution committee, which was working on what they needed to fix in the constitution and by-laws. The second was the cultural alliance, which revolved around the March Women’s History Month event and finalized the questions. On Friday, March 7th, and Saturday, March 8th, President Romero attended the virtual PTK Regional Conference with the PTK Team. During this conference, many colleges were awarded for their involvement on their campuses and regional officer elections for New York. He wants to congratulate his dear friend and MCC PTK President Mara Waynick, who was elected as the PTK Regional Alumni Representative. This was very well deserved, and he knew she would be amazing like she always is.

  2. Vice President of Governance Cole

Good afternoon, everyone, VP Cole has a few items to address. First, she attended a meeting for the Constitution Committee, where they mainly discussed proposed changes to the Student Government by-laws and the constitution, along with an overall review of these documents. Additionally, she has drafted the Mapping Club Funding Request, which will be addressed in our upcoming items. Thank you.

  3. Vice President of Downtown Ellis

Vice President of The Downtown Campus Ellis on February 28th, 2025, VP of the Downtown Campus Ellis attended the Black History Event that took place on the second floor. There was a catered BBQ, and everyone was satisfied with the food. The Dwight food pantry also passed out food bags to the community. Since there were 200 people who showed up, we unfortunately couldn’t feed them all or give them food bags. However, we were able to still give them the support and encouragement they needed to excel right here at MCC. Understanding Black history is important and those who embraced the culture are greatly appreciated, the VP said. Also, the VP gave an introduction speech to let the students know who she is, and what SGA is all about. We had some from a few departments come and show support for the Black History Event such as Dr. Gantt, Trio Department, MCC Foundation, Disability Awareness Club, Kim DeLardge, Sherna from Financial Aid, Dwight food pantry from Nicole, and many more. Thank you to all the others who also took part and that was not mentioned by the VP.
