Reports

  1. President Romero

On Tuesday, September 24th, President Romero attended the First Club & Orgs meeting of the Academic Year. He would give announcements about events that are happening in the future regarding SGA and bring attention to the Heritage Month Calendar Diversity Senator Small is working on. Furthermore, he also mentioned to all of the Clubs & organizations how these meetings are mandatory to attend, and you must stay for the whole thing. He wants to say how amazing the Club Connect Committee was at running the meeting, and he loved how they tried to make it more engaging. On Wednesday, September 25th, Student Relations Senator Simba and President Romero attended the “What Does Democracy Mean To You” held in the Multicultural Prism center and a Zoom option on the Downtown Campus. This event was hosted by Professor Scanlon, Professor Muhlnickel, and Professor Bogdanovska. During the whole event, they discussed the importance of democracy, what democracy means, how philosophy, photography, and Political Science tie into democracy, and the importance of voting. After this, Student Relations Senator Simba and President Romero met with Matt and Ryan from the Sustainability Club, Eric Mendel, the Grounds Supervisor, and Mike Wichtowski from Facilities to meet with Seneca Park Zoo regarding the Butterfly Garden Project. They surveyed the area and asked what the project would look like if they worked with the Zoo. There will be another meeting to check base and finalize the outcome. On Thursday, September 26th, President Romero attended the Executive Leadership Team meeting with the SGA team to report on what SGA has worked on throughout the Summer and the beginning of the academic year. The reports aligned with President Dr. Burt Nanna’s Vision 2027, and five members of SGA read each report that revolved around the directions. He gave a report revolving around Direction 4, which revolved around Turbo Vote, Inviting Candidates to the campus, the SUNY SA leadership Conference, and the SUNY Virtual Dialogue. Afterward, we answered their questions, and they provided us with information. Later that day, President Romero was part of a round table discussion regarding MCC’s food pantry, “Doing What is Good and Healthy Together,” also known as DWIGHT. This meeting was to discuss DWIGHT’s significant impact on the community, and they were joined by Students who work there and use it and talked with the Chancellor of SUNY, John King jr, State Assembly Member Sarah Clark, and President Dr. Burt Nanna. President Romero would spew about how much DWIGHT has helped those in the community and how amazing it is. I want to give a massive shout-out to everyone who helps with DWIGHT. Student Life includes Melissa Gue, Jodi Oriel, Chloe Allen, Mary Geisert, and Tracy Mckinney. Of course, the students who help run it, like SGA Secretary Tehya Deisenroth, help assist with stocking, maintaining it, providing feedback, and train the new students who work there now. Many students help with it, like Alica Crimmins, Christine Kerwin, Robert Gracie, Alana Murphy, Margarita Rizzuti, Desi Charles, Larry Pittman, and Charity Nietopski. Every Single one helps keep DWIGHT a resource, and MCC is lucky to have people like them.
