    1. Chief of Staff Zin called for a motion to approve the February 20, 2024 Student Government Association minutes.

    4. Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approves the February 20, 2024 minutes as written.

  5. Secretary of Governance Crimmins

    On February 14th, Secretary of Governance Crimmins attended an interview to appoint Zaineb Ijaz in SGA. Then during break, Secretary of Governance Crimmins completed the Senate Minutes from the previous meeting and attended the SGA meeting via zoom on the 20th. She also drafted the resolution to appoint Zaineb and the Global Union funding request. On the 27th, she, and other SGA members and advisors, will be in Albany for SUNY Advocacy Day to represent MCC and discuss budgeting, and any issues at hand. Thank you.

    Reciting email: Whereas New York State is facing a workforce shortage in every industry, particularly in high-demand jobs. Whereas, addressing this shortage will require a commitment to funding the Empire State Community College Workforce Guarantee, necessitating the State to match the counties’ base operating budgetary support for SUNY community colleges with an additional $97M annual budget allocation; Whereas, SUNY four-year students receive more than three times as much direct public tax support than two-year students and yet community colleges, who receive 28 cents on the dollar of State support compared to four-year public colleges, serve a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged and under-represented minority students; Enacted, SUNY community colleges will deliver on the Empire State Community College Workforce Guarantee to train 20,000 students in credit and non-credit high-cost programs to fill jobs in high-demand fields with a $97 million increase in state base aid operating support; Resolved, to address this crisis and contribute to the overall economic growth of the state, New York State should invest in community colleges to deliver on the Empire State Workforce Guarantee that will train 20,000 individuals in high-demand fields and grow our economy statewide while fostering economic mobility for those workers; Resolved, the SUNY Student Assembly stands in full support of this resolution, urging the State of New York to recognize the critical importance of community colleges in fostering economic mobility and meeting the workforce demands of the future. Resolved, the official public notice given by SUNY Student Assembly President, Alexander Ruiz within 1 month of approval of Resolution (#). Resolved, the mandatory participation of the SUNY SA Community College Caucus Committee to disperse informational surveys and meet with the Mohawk Valley Community College Student Congress President or their designee to discuss the Empire State Community College Workforce Guarantee. Resolved, the informational survey shall be sent out to community colleges four times per semester, commencing from the date of this resolution and continuing throughout an academic year.

    1. Resolution for the Funding Request from Mapping Club.

      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the funding request of $600 for their Mappathon event.
      Chief of Staff Zin called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Ellis.
      Discussion: The Mapping Club completed the standards and met all the requirements of the Student Government Association and Office of Student Life and Leadership.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association approve the funding request and allocate $600 to Mapping Club at Monroe Community College.

    2. Resolution for the Funding Request from Black Student Union.
      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the funding request of $400 for their movie discussion event.
      Chief of Staff Zin called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Wrobeh.
      Discussion: The Black Student Union completed the standards and met all the requirements of the Student Government Association and Office of Student Life and Leadership.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association approve the funding request and allocate $400 to Black Student Union at Monroe Community College.
    3. Resolution for the Funding Request from Campus One80.
      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the funding request of $3,500 to help fund their attendance at Delta Lake Bible Conference.
      Chief of Staff Zin called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Wrobeh.
      Discussion: Campus One80 completed the standards and met all the requirements of the Student Government Association and Office of Student Life and Leadership.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association approve the funding request and allocate $3,500 to Campus One80 at Monroe Community College.
    4. Resolution for the Funding Request from Global Union.
      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the funding request of $1,000 for their Bollywood event.
      Chief of Staff Zin called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Ellis.
      Discussion: The Global Union completed the standards and met all the requirements of the Student Government Association and Office of Student Life and Leadership.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association approve the funding request and allocate $1,000 to Global Union at Monroe Community College.
