It was a beautiful and emotional moment, especially as it was shared with Ellis, who is also deeply deserving of recognition.

Reports

  1. President Romero

Good Afternoon, everyone. I want to start by saying this is going to be a long, long report. I apologize for this, but there is a lot I want to reflect on, not just for this year but also past years. So I  will do what Senator Cory Booker did. If some people don’t understand that  reference, I will do what Adrien Brody did at the Oscars this year. I am going to try not to get emotional. We’ll see if I stir away from this. These last few years have been spent in the Student Government Association and  have been a real blessing. As someone very passionate about advocacy, planning,  helping others, and ensuring everyone is included, I was happy to take more of a lead on this in the MCC Community. Even though I am passionate about this, it’s not something I expected to participate in. I know I have said this thousands of times, but back in high school, I didn’t want to go to college, and do anything but  go straight to work, as that was what everyone else in my family did. I did not  think I would be where I am now, thanks to everyone here and past people who are  no longer at MCC. I started SGA in my first month at MCC, where I began as  Election Coordinator, was appointed Vice President of Governance, and then elected President. Here I am, never thinking I would do something with my life, and I was proven wrong. September 20th, 2022, will never leave my mind, as that is when I applied to Student Government and met people I would call a second  family to me. I am always so happy to have you all in my life, and I honestly don’t  know what I would do without you all. I love being in SGA and being a leader on campus.  Of course, you know, there were times I was frustrated, struggled, and had no idea  if I was doing anything right or if I was the right fit for the positions I was in. You all supported me and everyone else in this organization, especially during difficult times. Even with all the negative and stressful moments we all had to handle, I can look  past all of that and focus on all the positive interactions we all had at our meetings,  at conferences, in the office, in events, and even outside of school. Most people think, “How do people in SGA have fun?” All I can tell them is that just because  we are part of a “government” or “politicians” doesn’t mean we are fun and don’t  build relationships. Many of the most important people in my life are from the Student Government. I know there were times I was difficult to work with, and I could be annoying, and frustrated, especially with some of you. But it’s because I care about all of you, and it’s a weird way of showing my support. I want to thank a lot of people. This is not in any particular order, so don’t worry.  Dr Ryan Messenger, my twin, thank you so much for supporting the students, club,  and the orgs on campus. You have been fantastic to work with, and I am incredibly  thankful for always having those one-on-one meetings with you once a month. It shows your consideration for students. I was, and still am, honored to have had you stand beside me for the Chancellor’s Award, and it meant a lot, especially from the other students and me. Ginny, thanks for all that you do with the MCC Association,  for working alongside the SGA to have a voice on the board, and for all the advice  and better understanding of all the financial aspects of the school, the budget, and  for helping us all. Ryan and Ginny have attended our senate meetings every single time, including the summer, and even if they had to miss it, they ensured they knew what happened. They are both fantastic, and I will miss you both. Thank you to the office of Student Life, and all the employees, Melissa, who I don’t know  where we would be without her, and I don’t know who I would bother. Melissa does so much, and she also means a lot to me. Chloe Allen, whom I also had as an advisor for PTK, has been a rockstar for all her students. Tracey, and getting to work with her as a student, and now as a department staff member. Always so positive, sweet, and raised two incredible children, who were not afraid to go to college with her and walk the stage with them. Morganne, and Juslannie, who I  have known for only a few months, but they are incredible people, and extremely hardworking, and it sucks I am leaving because I felt I barely had time to get to  know them. Still, I am incredibly grateful to have known them. All of the staff in  this department are amazing women, and I see them as motherly figures. Jodi, thank you for everything and for being such a supportive figure in my life at MCC. Words cannot show how grateful I am for you, but I hope you know how appreciative I am of you, and how happy I am to be like a son to you. Mark, thank you for being not just my advisor, not just my professor, but a good friend. I will never forget the number of trips we went on together, where I was shotgun. Or went bowling, and I kicked your butt. But honestly, thank you for all of your support for us in SGA. Lastly, I want to thank all the students I enjoyed working with. I will do this individually because I care so much about you. Again, no particular order.  Ashley, I have known you since I gave you a tour in the summer of 2023, and it’s been a hell of a ride. My god, I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years, it went by so fast. Thanks for being a rockstar, doing so much to help with SGA, always volunteering without hesitation, being my friend, and being funny. Ashley is secretly funny. Also, continuing Club Connect was terrific, and you deserve so much respect.  Jalisa, congrats on being elected. I am very proud of you and know you will be great. I remember your interview and how energetic and happy you were. Remember, I am here to support you, even miles away from MCC.  Billy, I am so happy to have gotten to know you better throughout this year. Working with you in Model UN and SGA and going to D.C. together was fantastic, and every time we hung out, we always had a good time. I remember we went to McDonald’s at 1:00 a.m. in NYC and had such a good time. Thanks for everything you do on the team, the MCCA board, Empire State, and the Unlocking Opportunities team.  Beth, thanks for always being there for me and for being an amazing and fun person. Being a Batman nerd was great, and all you did for SGA was great. Culture Alliance was great; you stole my boss from me. But joking aside, you have changed many lives, and I know you changed Jae’s life and made him so happy. You’ll do great things, Beth, and remain a voice. You were, in my opinion, the best diversity Senator in SGA. Don’t tell Kenny. Margherita, when you first walked through those doors in Student Life, I knew you would somehow be involved in my life. Thanks for everything you do in Student Life and SGA, for being energetic, happy, and great, and helping with the social media. Congrats, of course, on Peer Nav. Here’s my advice: don’t overdo it. Shawn, thanks for being a good friend and role model for most of us in SGA, bringing the voice of veteran students, being a beast in SGA, taking Lizzy and me to FLCC, taking the lead on the COS committee, and being an outstanding delegate in Model UN. Of course, when I needed to talk with you, you helped me many times. Lorita, thanks for putting all your effort into everything for SGA and the downtown campus. You have always been reliable, helpful, and supportive of me these last two years. In my opinion, you are deserving of the MCC champion, and you are consistently kicking butt, and fighting no matter what. You are a great representation of a fighting champion. Madison, I know you just got here and are transferring, but thanks for helping out so much, taking on responsibility for things, and letting me pile you with work. You were always there when I saw you stressed at my desk, and just showing support was excellent. You’re gonna do great at your next college. Hajer, you are an incredible leader in SGA and during your time in the MSA. You and a few others helping me during fasting were great, teaching me new things about a religion I knew nothing about, and teaching others. Congrats on being elected Community College Rep, and when you were elected, I was so proud of you, my god, it was like seeing a father watch their kid graduate from high school. You’re gonna be great, and always remember, build relationships with the reps in SUNY SA. Hamzah, I don’t know how you do it, but you do so much, and it’s always great work, whether in SGA or other clubs or just being a smart guy. You have been amazing to work with and helped me during fasting with the times and the food, man. I will never forget. Continue to be great at RIT and create new technology that could be linked to creating Androids. Joe, it’s wild that we have worked with each other these past few years, and time goes by fast. During your interview, I remember all of the SGAs surrounding you, and we all interviewed you. You have been fun and fabulous to work with in SGA, Model UN, PTK, and even the Morelle Internship. Fun fact: We went on so many lunch dates, and it’s wild. Also, running around and putting signs on lawns was entertaining. I remember the one time we went to Ana’s house, and her uncle didn’t recognize us, and thought we were just annoying canvassers. Thanks for being my pal these few years and supporting me. Esma, words can’t express how grateful I am for you. Thank you, and I apologize for everything you have dealt with regarding me in SGA and Model UN. Thanks for always being there for me, caring for me, and just dealing with all of my dumb, ridiculous attitude. I just want you to know you’re amazing and supportive, and I am happy to have worked with you. I hope you know how great you are. Lizzy, you are great, fantastic, and all of the above. When you first met me, you were scared of me because I was the president. I think I was more scared of meeting you, and you can ask Nick and all of those guys becacsue I was freaking out before the interview. You have been amazing to work with, and such a great team player. You do so much, especially for Peer Nav and Tributones, it’s amazing. Please continue to be yourself and do what is best for you. I also want to thank those who are no longer in SGA: Nicholas Tran, Alicia Crimmins, Tehya Deisenroth, Alyssa Ryan, and Nenee Curry. I also want to thank those who helped with committees, such as Eric Grove, Brandon Taffee, Rashimba Philips, and JJ Morganno. I want to end with one last thing: no matter how much you struggle or how difficult it gets, if you love something, fight for it, and you will always have the backing of loved ones by your side. That’s what my Grandfather, Antonio Romero, taught me, and because of all of you, I would not have done any of this and made it as far as I did. Thank you, and I hope I made all of you proud.

  2. Vice President of Governance Cole

Hello good afternoon everyone! VP Cole had the utmost pleasure in attending the spring SUNY SA conference last weekend. She had the great opportunity of being a voting delegate and Instead of attending the workshops she remained in the conference room, raising her plaque on many different occasions as well as being able to place my vote! She also just wants to say that she is is proud of everyone that decided to run and also just wants to congratulate again Secretary Enaami on her new position as one of the fellow community college representatives for SUNY and secretary of staff DePoty for also running for this position and of course President Romero for his strong campaigning and running for VP. She’s also very happy to say that she was also able to make some more new connections with other attendees and was happy to also be able to spend a lot of time with you guys over the weekend and gather some team boarding experience as well. (AKA appreciating Jay Fish’s presence.) Overall, she is very appreciative that she again got to attend and experience what a spring conference is like. Thank you!

  3. Vice President of Downtown Ellis

Majesty Loritea Ellis SGA Reflection Report 5/10/25 Vice President of The Downtown Campus Ellis About my experiences as a student leader in various clubs and organizations: From the moment I stepped onto campus, I knew I wanted to make a difference. Little did I know that desire would lead me down a path of incredible personal and professional growth through club involvement and leadership as the Vice President of The Downtown Campus in the Student Government Association. Being a student leader isn’t just about holding a title. It’s about embracing challenges, discovering hidden talents, and building a community that feels like family. The most rewarding aspect of club leadership has been the opportunity to connect with peers from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives and ideas. These interactions have honed my communication and collaboration skills, essential assets for any future career. I’ve learned the art of active listening, the importance of clear communication, and the power of teamwork. Beyond the practical skills, I’ve discovered a sense of belonging and camaraderie that has enriched my college experience. Being a student leader has also pushed me to step outside my comfort zone. I’ve organized events, managed budgets, and navigated complex situations, all of which have instilled in me a confidence I never knew I possessed. These experiences have not only prepared me for future career challenges but have also helped me identify my passions and values. I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about authority; it’s about inspiring others, fostering collaboration, and making a positive impact. Through my involvement in clubs and organizations, I’ve not only grown as a leader but also as an individual. I’ve learned the importance of community, the value of diverse perspectives, and the power of stepping outside of my comfort zone. These experiences have shaped me into a more confident, capable, and compassionate person, ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you all for the faith you had in me as your Vice President of The Downtown Campus. I will forever be thankful for this chance to showcase what I already knew I had in me. Which was being a leader who stands on business and a mic for student voices.

  5. Secretary of Governance Enaami

    Hi everyone,

As this is our last meeting, I just want to take a moment to say thank you — truly — to every single person who’s been part of this journey. It’s been such a meaningful experience, and I feel so grateful to have shared it with all of you.   Angelo, I need to start with you. You’ve been supportive since day one. Always showing up for people, always open-minded, always willing to try new things. When you were open about Ramadan and fasting, it genuinely made me feel seen and included — and I appreciated that more than you know. I’ve always believed that being a leader isn’t just about taking the lead. It’s about being consistent, a good listener, supportive, confident, patient, and understanding. You’ve embodied all of that in so many ways.  Lizzy, thank you for always making me laugh when I needed it most. Your energy is unmatched, and you brought a light to every meeting — even the chaotic ones.    To everyone else: thank you. Whether we spoke every day or only here and there, you’ve each contributed to something special.    I’ve always been drawn to leadership. Even growing up, I’d find myself taking on roles without even realizing it. When I came to MCC, I felt like I could really step into that. From being Vice President, then President of the Muslim Student Association, to becoming Secretary of Student Government, and then Representative of Community Colleges — I’ve learned so much. And if there’s one thing I’ve taken from all this, it’s that trying new things never hurts. It teaches you. It grows you. And it introduces you to people who leave a mark on your life.   To Shawn, Esma, and Elizabeth: y’all are weird. But like…my kind of weird. The jokes, the random moments, the zero judgment, the conversation…the everything. — I’ll miss that more than you know.  To DePoty: our conversations always went deeper than surface level, and I’ve genuinely appreciated your perspective and your presence. I admire you and I’m thankful for every one of our talks.  To Hazmah: we’ve had a ride. Through every bump or moment of turbulence, we figured it out and came out better. You’ve taught me a lot and helped me feel more connected to engineering — thank you. To Ashley: I appreciate our late-night convos and you being on face time with  FIINNNEEEE …. HEEEHHH (iykyk), and watching the show You together — that was our bonding time. To Billy: I’ve always appreciated our mature conversations. You’re so open-minded and easy to talk to, and I admire that about you. All of you have left a mark on my heart that I’ll carry with me, wherever I go. Please keep being who you are. Keep showing up for what you believe in. And keep working hard for the things you want — big things are coming your way, I just know it.   Thank you for being part of this chapter with me. I’ll miss you all more than you know.

  6. Secretary of Staff DePoty

On February 11th, Secretary of Staff DePoty was appointed to her position in the SGA, she was very excited about starting a new chapter in her college education diving headfirst into a leadership opportunity. Little did she know she not only was gaining leadership experience but gaining a family, a community. Secretary of Staff DePoty has found sisterhood with all the girls and found humor with all the guys, from every hug to laugh to every “Howdy” greeting when walking into the office. No words can describe the amount love that she has experienced in such little time. Mark Sample and Jodi Oriel only enhanced the amount of joy and laughter within the group. Secretary of Staff DePoty has a quote to share, “to be loved, is to be seen”, within a schooling environment has she felt seen. In SGA she has felt seen and loved deeper than she could ever imagine. Throughout her time, Secretary of Staff has learned how to engage in her community, strengthen her communication skills, and overall became a better student leader. It is with sadness she must report in the Fall 2025 semester Secretary of Staff DePoty will be attending Elim Bible Insititute to pursue her studies. She will greatly miss MCC and everyone here but will still visit. She would love to thank everyone and says she loves you all

  7. Chief of Staff Al Ani

On Monday, May 5th [Club Advisor Appreciation Day], Hamzah presented a workshop to ICT club on game development. The workshop was productive and allowed attendees live experience in game development. Later during the same day, Hamzah attended a CAB meeting, where they finalized plans for the upcoming Spring Fling and Gala events. On Tuesday, May 6th, Hamzah attended the Clubs and Orgs Council meeting, where he had the pleasure to meet current and new officers from all clubs that attended, and listen to their future plans. On Wednesday, May 7th, from 8 to 2 PM, Hamzah assisted CAB, cultural alliance, and student life, with coordinating the Spring Fling event and preparing the Spring Gala. The Spring Fling event ran successfully, with more attendees than expected. On Thursday, May 8th, Hamzah had the pleasure of attending the English Writing Competition Awards Ceremony and listening to the great winning pieces written by some of our very own SGA board members (Elizabeth & Lorita). And lastly, on Friday, May 9th, from 4 till 9 PM, Hamzah assisted in preparing, cleaning, and coordinating the MSA tea party event. The event ran successfully, with a small yet enthusiastic audience

  8. Health & Wellness Senator Wrobeh

Hello all and welcome to our last public senate meeting of the year. Last week Senator Wrobeh organized the monthly clubs and org meeting, and ran it on Tuesday. This year was amazing for Senator Wrobeh. She really enjoyed working with this team and could not have picked a better group of people. Senator Wrobeh would also like to acknowledge all of President Romero’s hard work over the last two years. Senator Wrobeh thinks that everyone can learn from President Romero’s passion for student affairs. Lastly, Senator Wrobeh would like to appreciate her time at MCC altogether. This college has changed her from an indecisive kid to an assertive adult, while allowing her to make mistakes and grow from them. She will always acknowledge her time here when it comes to her academic career. Thank you

  9. Student Relations Senator Simba

Over the past four weeks, Student Relations Senator Billy Simba has demonstrated significant dedication as an engaged member of the Monroe Community College community. His active participation has been evident in numerous campus events, student advocacy initiatives, and notable academic pursuits. In late March, Senator Simba was involved in organizing the Women’s History Month Panel discussion on March 19th, an event held in collaboration with the Culture Alliance. On March 20th, he attended the monthly MCC Association Board meeting, where important discussions took place regarding campus dining services, upcoming projects, and various college-related resolutions. Senator Simba’s engagement continued strongly into April. On April 2nd, he played a part in the SGA self-defense training event, which aimed to provide students with valuable self-defense skills and information. A key highlight of this period was Senator Simba’s representation of Monroe Community College at the SUNY SA Conference in Syracuse, which he attended from Friday, April 25th, to Sunday, April 27th. The latter part of April and early May were marked by Senator Simba’s significant academic and leadership roles. He was a distinguished participant and presenter at MCC’s 17th Annual Scholars’ Day on Wednesday, April 30th. His insightful presentation, “The Corrosive Influence of Money in American Politics,” earned him third place in the awards ceremony. That evening, Senator Simba was instrumental in the Scholars’ Day keynote program. He delivered heartfelt welcoming remarks, sharing his perspective as a Global Studies student, a proud SGA member, and a firm believer in the power of research to improve society. He commended Scholars’ Day for its vital role in fostering academic growth and providing scholarship opportunities through the MCC Foundation. Following this, he had the distinct honor of introducing the keynote speaker, the highly regarded Dr. Clint Smith. Dr. Smith’s powerful message resonated deeply, particularly his reflections on historical awareness. He memorably stated, “It’s easy to look at a statue and call it history. When you ignore the laws written in its weight”, a sentiment that underscored the evening’s focus on critical engagement with the past. Alongside Senator Elisabeth Small, Senator Simba later delivered the closing remarks for the keynote event, thanking Dr. Smith and the event’s interviewers, Dr. Tokeya Graham and Norma Holland, and inviting attendees to a book signing. Further demonstrating his commitment to student life, Senator Simba attended and assisted with the Graduation Fair on Thursday, May 1st. Senator Billy Simba’s consistent and varied contributions across these activities underscore his strong commitment to serving the student body, enriching the campus experience, and pursuing his own academic and personal development.

  10. Diversity Senator Small

On Wednesday, May 7th, Elisabeth and Culture Alliance set up our Stress Less table of crafts and collaboration with RocDog featuring three furry friends at the Spring Fling event. Great job everyone and shout out to Culture Alliance for all of their hard work this year. On Thursday, May 8th, Elisabeth was joined by fellow students in celebration of the 54th Student Writing Awards Ceremony and English scholarship awards. This was an amazing literary event where students shared their prize-winning pieces and gratitude. She would like to thank Professor Rudd and Profess Leuzzi for their support and direction in her writing and research. Joining SGA was her way of breaking out of her shell and embracing what MCC has to offer her. Through the guidance of Mandie McGinnis and Mary Geisert, she took a chance that has truly shaped her time as a student and a leader. When she first took the role of Diversity Senator, she looked to Jodi Oriel for guidance and what it means to be Diversity Senator. She told her to make it her own. To be honest, this advice only furthered her confusion about what she should be doing or if she was in the right place. However, with time, she felt an environment develop around her that inspired and helped her find a voice to fully take on my role. The support and dedication from Culture Alliance with the Adoption Awareness Panel truly touched her heart. Being able to highlight and discuss the challenges and successes of people like her, a group that is only now slowly developing a voice, meant so much to her. Throughout the year, the people of SGA, the students and advisors, made MCC a second home. The jokes, the advice, and the camaraderie, and many mentions of Jae Fish, made SGA feel like she has known these people her entire life. As many of you close on your time here and move onto new things, your departure is bittersweet. There will never be a group quite like this; a group of diverse, imaginative, hardworking and compassionate people that became a family. She’ll miss you all and wish you all the luck in the future. Thank you everyone for a wonderful year.

  13. Athletic Senator Burno

When I first joined Student Government, I didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous and anxious going into my interview, but those feelings quickly faded the moment I was greeted with warm smiles and enthusiasm from Lizzy, Angelo, and Lorita. In that moment, I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. From day one, I’ve been welcomed with open arms. Each of you has provided me with support, guidance, and encouragement. Every interaction with this group has brightened my day, and I truly hope I’ve been able to do the same for all of you. You’ve all been such a big part of my freshman year. I’m so grateful I got to grow and experience this year alongside you all. I want to give a special thank you to Lizzy, who has offered me so much support and guidance throughout this journey. And to Angelo thank you for pushing me outside of my comfort zone and motivating me to take that leap and run for president. You’ve both played such a big role in shaping my experience, and I’m beyond thankful. I know I have big shoes to fill, and I know I won’t be able to replace the incredible impact you’ve all made here at MCC, but I know I’m ready to step up and give it my all. Because of all your mentorship, guidance, and the passion you’ve all poured into SGA, I know I’m prepared and confident that I’ll rise to the occasion.” Though I’m sad to see you all go, I’m also excited for what lies ahead for each of you. You’ve already made such a meaningful impact, and I know that wherever life takes you next, you’ll all continue to do amazing things. Thank you all for being such a big part of my journey here at MCC. I feel truly blessed to have crossed paths with every one of you.
