Reports

  1. President Romero

On Monday, March 10th, President Romero gave a presentation in Eric Wheeler’s COS class, where he talked about what SGA is, its role on campus, and how they are shared governance. He focused on recruiting first-year students to run for SGA positions for the next Academic Year! Later on, the day he attended the Student Chef of the Year competition with VP of Governance Cole & Historian Tran, where Culinary Students from MCC & Other schools in the area competed! He is happy to announce that MCC student Brent Shallenberger won the competition! On Tuesday, March 11th, President Romero attended the Club & Orgs meeting, where he helped spread the word about the Women’s History Month event on. March 19th, which will include a panel. He also talked about his trips during the week. Shoutout to Health & Wellness Senator Ashely Wrobeh and Eric Grove for running last week’s Club & Orgs Meeting.  On Wednesday, March 12th, President Romero traveled to Finger Lakes Community College. He represents them in the SUNY Student Assembly and thought meeting with them would be a good idea. He went with VP of Governance Cole and Veteran Senator Sanchez. They met their SGA at the college, their roles, how their SGA works, how their shared governance is compared to ours, and how their meetings are run. They went on a campus tour and met many college members, including the president, Dr. Robert Nye. Overall, it was a great experience, and he is happy to return what he learned at the college to MCC. He did get FLCC Merch. Thanks to SGA President Terrance Dominquez and VP Nessa Gonzalez, who he will see at PTK Catalyst in April. Later that day, he attended the MCC Concert, where he listened to the Jazz concert and the great Acapella group the Tributones performed. Shout out to the group and VP Cole. Thursday, March 13th, President Romero met with a student interested in running for a position in SGA. He is still spreading the word about SGA Elections. From Friday, March 14th to Saturday, March 15th, President Romero traveled to Albany for the last-person Executive Committee Meeting for the SUNY Student Assembly. Before arriving in Albany, he explored the SUNY Oswego Campus and learned about their college. The next day was the meeting at the University at Albany, where the items discussed revolved around the Spring Conference, the upcoming elections for the new officer, and the possible workshops that would happen. VP Fish did ask if Mark Sample could speak. Three resolutions would pass. The first is Recognizing Women’s History Month and all the women who work in SUNY SA. The second was establishing a Mandatory Mental Health Day for all SUNY Students, and it recommended that the SUNY Board of Trustees implement two Mental Health Days each semester for all SUNY Students. The last was passing a resolution to declare President Giovanni Harvey as President Emeritus, an honorary title given for all his hard work in SUNY SA as President and his other roles. Angelo and many others had the honor of Co-sponsoring this resolution as they felt it was much deserved. Overall, it was a productive week.

  2. Vice President of Governance Cole

Good afternoon everyone,I would like to share some highlights from my week. On Monday, March 10th, I attended the annual Chef of the Year competition alongside President Romero and Nicholas Tran. On Tuesday, March 11th, I helped set up and attended the Clubs and Organizations meeting, which had a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Everything went smoothly, and everyone’s reports sounded great. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Club Connect. Great job, everyone! On Wednesday, March 12th, Veteran Senator Sanchez, President Romero, and I toured Finger Lakes Community College as part of President Romero’s duties as a Community College Representative for SUNY SA. The campus was beautiful, and we observed their Student Government meetings and how their system operates. We collected many ideas to bring back to our own student government and gained a better understanding of one of our fellow community colleges. Overall, it was a very successful visit, and I want to extend a big thanks to President Dom and Vice President Gonzo. I truly hope to return someday. On Thursday, in my role as a Peer Navigator, I helped set up and worked at the Campus Feud event. We had a great turnout, and it was a lot of fun! The other side featured a setup with pots and mugs for painting. Overall, it was a fantastic event, and I can’t wait for the next one. That concludes my report. Thank you!
