Reports

  1. President Romero

Since the last summer meeting, President Romero has worked hard to start the academic year strong and represent the Student Body. President Romero was on the search committee to find candidates to fill the position of Assistant Director at the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development. He finished everything last month, and all of the search committee’s notes and opinions were sent to HR. There will be an update soon on who will fill the position. President Romero also wants to thank all clubs & organizations for attending the orientations to help introduce incoming Students to student life and what they have to offer. He also thanks all the SGA members for helping to table. A massive shoutout to Mary Geisert, the graduate assistant at the Student Life office, for all the planning and work she has helped to make this work. On August 21st, President Romero attended All College Day, an event to reconnect with the community, welcome new employees, and hear reports on the college. President Romero reported to everyone what SGA has accomplished and our future for the academic year. On August 22nd, He helped table at the Trio orientation event to introduce Trio Students to Student Life and answer any questions they had. From August 23rd to August 24th, I attended the SUNY SA Executive Meeting at Hudson Valley Community College in Albany, New York, to review business items as a Community College Representative. I met with the Cabinet and Colleagues to vote on items and review reports from each team. President Romero was voted into the Rules Committee, the highest-ranking committee in SUNY SA, and the job is to ensure any legislation and resolution comply with policy and procedure while also dealing with any disputes. It was a great weekend, and he believes the future looks promising for representation. Since the beginning of the semester, President Romero has been helping to get students registered to vote, find information on voting, and help students understand the importance of voting and being heard. He is tabling every Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 on the terrace with Chief of Staff Krieger. He has also discussed this in his in-person classes and, hopefully, get his classmates to vote. On Wednesday, August 28th, President Romero gave comedian Jimmy McCartney a campus tour before his Comedy show event that day. He would talk about how amazing the campus is, and why MCC Is the best place for an education. Later that night, he attended the event and had a good laugh. On Thursday, August 29th, President Romero gave a speech in the main atrium to discuss the benefits of getting involved as a Student Leader, how the Office of Student Life can introduce you to new people, and what skills you can gain from it. On Wednesday, September 4th, President Romero attended Planting the Seeds for Success with members of SGA and students to introduce the office’s theme. He painted pots and talked with Students. Finally, President Romero wants to talk about two events. The first is the Presidential Election Debate watch party today at 8:30 P.M in the forum. There will be food and snacks, and Students and Staff are welcome to come and watch the debate. There will also be a table to help with any election information. Professor Joseph Scanlon and Professor Nayda Pares Kane will be there for any questions Students or Faculty have. The second is the 23rd annual 9/11 Ceremony held outside Building ten near parking lot G. This event will remember those impacted by 9/11, and the main theme of this year is solidarity and the importance of coming together during difficult times. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans will give a speech, and many other speakers will participate. He wants to thank his team, including his advisors, Jodi Oriel and Mark Sample, for helping with this event.

  2. Vice President of Governance Crimmins

Since our last public senate meeting on July 10th, Vice President of Governance Crimmins has been active via tabling and making posters for many events including TurboVote, in which she tables on Mondays noon-1, the 9/11 ceremony where she sits on the 9/11 committee, student life fairs, etc. Vice President Crimmins has also been collaborating with Secretary Deisenroth and Diversity Senator Small to design the bulletin board outside the SGA office to welcome and inform students about its’ members, their office hours, wanted members, SGA’s goals, applications etc. Recently, Student Government has formed 3 more committees in which she sits on the Peace Committee, focusing on informing, and acknowledging injustices around the globe. This committee strives to hold events dedicated to educating students about current unjust issues including, but not limited to, war, genocide, and ethnic cleansing, as well as commemorating those who have died in the process. Thank you.

  3. Vice President of Downtown Ellis

On September 4, 2024, the Vice President of The Downtown Campus helped the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development (OSLLD) Mary Geisert to have Welcome Back Bash and celebrate the start of the new semester. The grand reopening of DWIGHT with fun activities, music, and food! Vice President of The Downtown Office also helped with the Planting Pots and Pudding Cups. Furthermore, planting the seeds of success for the year ahead! I enjoy pot painting, planting seeds, and pudding cups. All of which took place in the 2nd Floor Lounge of Downtown Campus. Also, there was the Grocery Bingo with First Year Experience in the Atrium & Downtown Campus, High Falls AB (3rd Floor) with Matthew Lawson. There students got to eat great food while playing for a chance to win hundreds of dollars in prizes. It was a perfect blend of excitement and delicious treats. Vice President of The Downtown Campus had a wonderful time connecting and building with the Downtown Campus. She looks forward to seeing and being a part of many more events.

  4. Treasurer Demir

Esma Demir is the new treasurer of the Student Government Association. She is an accounting major, and this is her third semester at MCC. Since the beginning of the semester, Treasurer Demir joined the FUN Club and Org Committee, which the point of the committee is to see what SGA can do differently at the Club and Org meetings

  5. Secretary of Governance Deisenroth

Good afternoon. Since the last senate meeting, Secretary Deisenroth has done many things for SGA. Firstly, she joined the Peace Committee along with other members of student government. As a member of the Peace Committee, their goal is to call for peace for the atrocities happening around the world, educate, and hold mindful events for students to join. Secretary Deisenroth also helped table for the Turbo Vote event that Senator Small did such a good job of organizing. Secretary Deisenroth has also been working with Chief of Staff Krieger and Senator Small to advocate for SGA through social media. We are hoping to hold more meetings and come up with more ideas so the student body can be more informed about who SGA is through social media. Lastly, Secretary Deisenroth has continued to work with the 9/11 committee to finish up last details of the ceremony. Thank you.

  6. Chief of Staff Krieger

On Monday, August 26, 2024, at 12:34 PM, Liam Krieger assisted with the Student Government Association (SGA) recruitment efforts at the Downtown Campus. The event was led by Loretta Ellis, who has done an outstanding job informing students and inspiring them to get involved on campus in leadership positions. Great job, Loretta! At 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Liam Krieger helped President Remaro with the voting registration booth. They engaged with numerous students and achieved a reasonable outcome in terms of voter registration. The message to the students is clear: if you are reading this, remember to vote—your voice matters! On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Liam Krieger finalized the staff hours of operation. We appreciate everyone on the team’s cooperation and the adjustments made.Lastly, Last Friday, i proposed the CELC or the communication engagement leadership committee or the communication engagement leadership commitment to enhancing student engagement and ensuring effective communication of campus events. We empower students to ignite their leadership potential and actively contribute to the campus community. Our short projects have already been set in motion, and more to follow and report next week and the following weeks Right now, Liam Krieger is finding time available to set up the first presentation on this committee, notifying the rest of the chairs later tonight

The other being the new SGA student engagement committee. VS Sanchez proposed an idea to the chair of the committee chief of staff Krieger, which he approved and they are eager to start working on.

  10.

    Student Relations Senator Simba

Senator Simba is pleased to report that the Fall semester has begun smoothly, with classes commencing without any major issues. Students and faculty alike seem to be settling into the academic routine, and the campus is abuzz with activity. The Senator has been actively researching potential Democratic candidates to invite as guest speakers during this election year. It is crucial that we provide our student body with opportunities to engage with political leaders and learn about their platforms. Additionally, the Student Relations Senator Simba together with others had attended the SUNY Student Leadership Conference in Albany, where they had the chance to network with student leaders from across the state. It was particularly insightful to learn about how different schools structure their student governments. This knowledge will be invaluable as the Student Government continues to refine its own operations and ensure that it is effectively representing the interests of the student body.
