Call to Order (2:15 pm)

    Vice President of Governance Romero called for a roll call to start the senate meeting.

    1. Vice President of Governance Romero called for a motion to approve the December 5, 2023, Student Government Association minutes.
    2. Senator Souhail so moved, seconded by Senator Wrobeh.
    3. A vote was taken.
    4. To be resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approves the December 5, 2023, minutes as written.

Reports

  1. President Leichtner

    On December 6th, President Leichtner attended the MCC’s 30s annual Salute to Excellence event. President Leichtner participated as a Student Volunteer to be able to go on the stage and hand out the awards. It was an honor to be part of the event.

  2. Vice President Romero

    On Monday, December 4th, and Tuesday, December 5th, Vice President Romero attended the last meetings’ finalizing all the details of the Ceasefire event with the Holocaust Genocide and Human Rights project, The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development, and the students who were planning the event. They showcased the signs that would be used for the walk and the slideshows that would be used, and they went over what would happen. The event was on December 6th, and he would also attend that, where he would listen to the speakers, participate in the walk, and hand out the signs. The event was impactful and emotional; he is glad it went well. On December 6th, Vice President Romero attended the Salute to Excellence event at the Rochester Center with President Leichtner, Vice President of Downtown McGinnis, Student Trustee Santos, Secretary of Governance Zin, Club & Orgs Senator Garcia Maldonado, Virtual Campus Senator Ellis, Student Life Advisor Oriel and Faculty Advisor Sample. He would talk with MCC Community members and meet with Bob Duffy, a Trustee at SUNY. He would also meet with Mayor Malik Evans at the event. The whole event, though, was to celebrate the achievements of MCC Alumni and staff. He would like to congratulate all the 2023 inductees, as he thought they all deserved it. He would also listen to Student Trustee Santos’s speech; she did a fantastic job. He also listened to the Tributone’s performance there and thought it was good. Overall, it was a perfect event; he would attend it again. On December 7th, Vice President Romero participated in the president’s Holiday party, where he talked with all the other staff and faculty. He got to pick out of the raffle box to see who won one of the prizes with the president’s team. They had great food, and he was glad to attend it.

  3. Vice President of Downtown McGinnis

    On Wednesday, December 6th Student Trustee Santos, President Liechtner, Vice President of Governance Romeo, Vice President of Downtown McGinnis, Secretary of Governance Zin, along with Senators Ellis, Garcia-Maldonado, and advisors Oriel and Sample attended the MCC Salute to Excellence. The event celebrates philanthropy and the outstanding alumni who were inducted into the MCC Hall of Fame. President Liechtner gave a video testimonial on behalf of a newly inducted Hall of Famer. Trustee Santos shared a piece of her story and how impactful scholarships are to her academic success. Congratulations to all the newly inducted members of the MCC Hall of Fame, we aspire to follow in your footsteps to do great things that create a positive impact on our community. Vice President McGinnis wishes all students luck on their finals, congratulations to all Fall graduates and to remember to take some time to relax over the break. Vice President McGinnis is looking forward to meeting all in the spring of 2024!

  5. Secretary of Governance Zin

    Secretary of Governance Zin attended the Salute to Excellence event on December 6th, 2023. It was an honor to attend the event. Student trustee Ana Santos’s speech was impressive, and she would like to say thank you and congratulate her for her success. Also, Secretary Zin finished the minutes of the senate meeting on December 5th, 2023.

  6. Secretary of Staff Harrigan

    After this week, Secretary of Staff Harrigan decided to step down as secretary of staff since he has plans to take next semester off college and go to work and find out what he wants to do. That is why this meeting is the last meeting for him, and he would like to say thank you and it was a pleasure working with the SGA members this semester. He will also be joining the SGA again when he comes back.

  7. Health & Wellness Senator Wrobeh

    This Saturday, Senator Wrobeh attended the SGA training. She learned detailed about the resolutions and how the meetings are supposed to be with other SGA member at the training.

  10. Virtual Campus Senator Ellis

    On December 5, 2023, Virtual Senator Ellis attended STG meeting with all other STG members. When the students learned of Rebecca Mack the Transfer Advisor had no help with overseeing 8,000 students. The Student Government wishes to advocate for additional assistance in this matter. Senator Ellis mentioned that the Future Downtown Campus Steering Committee is working on many ways to improve things not only for the Downtown Campus but all the students who attend Monroe Community College. Senator Ellis was tasked with being the lesion to see how the Future Downtown Campus Steering Committee could help, and can the STG bring forward the concerns of the need to hire another Transfer Advisor to not only help Rebecca but also all students looking forward to furthering a higher education. On December 6, 2023, Virtual Senator Ellis spoke with Kim Delarge about the matter of being able to speak with those on the Future Downtown Campus Steering Committee to further see how to proceed to amplify the voices of the Student Government concerning the budget for another Transfer Advisor. Later that evening Senator Ellis attended the Salute to Excellence Conference at 123 E Main St in the Joseph A. Floreno Rochester Riverside Convention Center with other SGA members such as President Leichtner, Vice President of Governance Romero, Vice President of Downtown McGinnis, Treasurer Guney, Secretary of Governance Zin, Club and Orgs Senator Garcia-Maldonado, Student Life Advisor Oriel, and Faculty Advisor Sample. Senator Ellis had another wonderful time being in a different setting, meeting with all those connected to Monroe Community College. There she also met with some acquaintances such as Alyssa Whitfield who received a reward that night, and Chanel Weaver from Dress for Success along with a few others. She is incredibly happy to be a part of SGA and to build, learn, and make a difference with her peers

  11. Residence Hall Senator Crimmins

    This week Saturday, Senator Crimmins attended the SGA training from 12 pm-2 pm. Also, she plans to attend the leader event on January 8th.

  12. Club and Organization Senator Garcia-Maldonado

    Senator Garcia-Maldonado attended the Salute to Excellence event for the first time. At the event, he found the stories of inductees, students, and alumni to be inspiring and he decided to see what comes from it in the future.

    Club and Organization Senator Kalumbwe has no reports for this week.

    1. Resolution for the approval of the Hike It Together Club Constitution

      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approves the establishment of the Hike It Together Club.
      Vice President Romero called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Wrobeh.
      Discussion: the constitution for the Hike It Together Club is complete to the standards of the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Life and Leadership.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Hike It Together be established as a recognized and chartered club at Monroe Community College.

    2. Resolution for the approval of the appointment of Ivy Zin as Chief of Staff

      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the appointment of Ivy Zin.
      Vice President Romero called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Crimmins so moved, second by Senator Souhail.
      Discussion: Ivy Zin has met all the requirements to be appointed by the Student Government Association.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association appoint Ivy Zin as Chief of Staff at Monroe Community College.

    3. Resolution for the appointment of Alicia Crimmins as Secretary of Governance

      Resolved, the Monroe Community College Student Government Association approved the appointment of Alicia Crimmins.
      Vice President Romero called for a motion to approve the resolution.
      Senator Souhail so moved, second by Senator Garcia-Maldonado.
      Discussion: Alicia Crimmins has met all the requirements to be appointed by the Student Government Association.
      A vote was taken. The resolution passed.
      Be it resolved, the senate present and voting that the Student Government Association appoint Alicia Crimmins as Secretary of Governance at Monroe Community College.
