{"id":803,"date":"2022-02-10T15:14:30","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T15:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/?p=803"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:16:19","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T15:16:19","slug":"mcc-to-help-build-national-resource-aimed-at-addressing-systemic-inequities-in-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/2022\/02\/10\/mcc-to-help-build-national-resource-aimed-at-addressing-systemic-inequities-in-higher-education\/","title":{"rendered":"MCC to Help Build National Resource Aimed at Addressing Systemic Inequities in Higher Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MCC to Help Build National Resource Aimed at Addressing Systemic Inequities in Higher Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>AAC&amp;U selects MCC among 19 institutions to develop Truth, Racial Healing &amp; Transformation-Focused Campus Climate Assessment Toolkit <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Monroe Community College is among 19 U.S. institutions selected by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/\">AAC&amp;U<\/a>) to help develop a Truth, Racial Healing &amp; Transformation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/initiatives\/trht-campus-climate-assessment-toolkit\">(TRHT)\u2013Focused Campus Climate Assessment Toolkit<\/a>. Chosen through a competitive process, MCC is one of two New York public colleges to participate in the effort. (The City University of New York\u2019s Guttman Community College received honorable mention following the selection process.)<\/p>\n<p>The toolkit aims to complement existing campus climate surveys and promote deeper understanding of institutional environments and of lived experiences of students, faculty, staff, and communities, according to the AAC&amp;U (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/newsroom\/nineteen-institutions-selected-to-participate-in-development-of-trht-focused-campus-climate-assessment-toolkit\">media release<\/a>). The toolkit will help institutions and practitioners interrogate systems, policies, programs, services, and practices that perpetuate disparities and inequities and identify opportunities for expanding relationship building and racial healing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ability of an institution to address systemic inequities effectively depends on a clear-eyed, ongoing assessment of the many factors that influence its unique campus climate,\u201d said <strong>AAC&amp;U President Lynn Pasquerella.<\/strong> \u201cWe are thrilled to partner with these 19 colleges and universities on the development of a new and much-needed resource to support such assessments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/files\/2022\/02\/Calvin-Gantt.jpg\" alt=\"MCC Vice President Calvin J. Gantt, Ed.D.\" width=\"164\" height=\"247\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonroe Community College prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to ensure life-changing higher education and training is accessible and to promote racial healing,\u201d said <strong>MCC Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Calvin J. Gantt, Ed.D. <\/strong>(pictured right).\u201cWe are proud of the opportunity to partner with AAC&amp;U to bring this innovative toolkit to fruition\u2014a significant step toward openly exploring institutional environments and transforming higher education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Core teams from each of the selected colleges and universities will serve as thought partners in the development of the toolkit, providing their insight and feedback on its relevance, content, and structure. MCC core team members represent key campus stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, and staff.
