{"id":391,"date":"2021-02-03T14:39:25","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T14:39:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/?p=391"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:11:16","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T15:11:16","slug":"mcc-among-suny-community-colleges-to-resume-njcaa-spring-2021-competitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/2021\/02\/03\/mcc-among-suny-community-colleges-to-resume-njcaa-spring-2021-competitions\/","title":{"rendered":"MCC Among SUNY Community Colleges to Resume NJCAA Spring 2021 Competitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Each institution\u2019s plans depend on local COVID-19 rates and local health department approval<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BRIGHTON, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Monroe Community College student-athletes will return to play and compete in lacrosse, soccer and other intercollegiate sports in spring 2021, following a plan collectively laid out by SUNY community colleges that are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).<\/p>\n<p>Under the plan, SUNY colleges have the option to cancel intercollegiate athletics, return to play\/practice, or return to compete. Colleges returning to play\/practice may hold on-campus workouts and training with student-athletes, in a structured and monitored environment, without engaging in competition.<\/p>\n<p>Colleges returning to compete must adhere to sport-specific guidelines and protocols developed collectively by the SUNY community colleges as informed by governing athletic associations. The guidelines are also consistent with directives from New York state, local health departments, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Each college\u2019s plans for returning to play or compete are dependent on local COVID-19 infection rates and its local health department\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n<p>MCC\u2019s spring sports season, which starts on March 20 and ends in May, will include competitions in baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and softball plus post-season tournaments.
