One of the most memorable moments, she says, is when students stop by her office or greet her in the hallway to share how well they are doing and how much they are thriving at the college.

“Hearing students share that they feel successful, confident, and supported in their college experience is incredibly rewarding and reminds me why this work is so meaningful,” she said.

When asked what advice she would give current or prospective students, Genao added, “I always encourage students to advocate for themselves and not be afraid to ask for help when they need it. At MCC, there are so many people and resources here to support them. Whether it’s professors, advisors, or campus services, everyone genuinely wants to see students succeed. Reaching out and using those resources can make a big difference in their college experience.”

Genao works closely with the Rochester Education Foundation (REF) to help ensure students receive support when completing the FAFSA and TAP applications and have access to scholarship opportunities. “Collaborating with organizations like REF helps make the college process more accessible and ensures students have the financial resources they need to pursue their education,” she added.

An alumna of MCC and Nazareth University, Genao is a proud parent of three children. Her oldest, Analese, will be graduating from MCC this December. Her daughter, Alyssa, is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Daemen University and will graduate in May 2027. Genao’s youngest, Julian, is a freshman in high school.

“Supporting my own children through their educational journeys has made my work with students even more meaningful,” she said.

Fun Facts About Michelle

Courtney: If you had to eat the same meal at least once a day, what would it be?

Michelle: None, I like trying different food.

Courtney: What is your favorite movie?

Michelle: Dirty Dancing

Courtney: What is your favorite sports team?

Michelle: Eagles

Courtney: What is your biggest fear?

Michelle: Clowns

Courtney: Is there anything about you that people are surprised to learn?

Michelle: I love to sing though, I cannot hold a tune.

Courtney: If you could attend a dinner with any celebrity, living or dead, who would you choose?

Michelle: Maya Angelou

Courtney: Do you prefer staying up late or waking up early in the morning?

Michelle: Early morning

Courtney: Share the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you.

Michelle: Treat others the way they need to be treated.

Courtney: What destination do you hope to visit one day?

Michelle: Thailand

Courtney: What activities do you participate in over the weekend?

Michelle: Spending time with friends and loved ones.

Michelle Genao

Michelle Genao is an Admissions Advisor at Monroe Community College (MCC) and has been with the College for four years. “I have always loved working with students,” said Genao, a former Rochester City School District teacher. “That experience helped me realize how much I enjoy supporting students in their educational journeys and helping them reach […]

[103
198,107
post-2202","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-mcc-proud","tag-michelle-genao","tag-staff-spotlight
["GET
