Burt-Nanna Named to American Association of Community Colleges Board of Directors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Brighton, N.Y. \u2013 June 23, 2025 \u2013 <\/strong>The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) announced it has elected Monroe Community College President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna to its Board of Directors.\u00a0 The AACC represents and advocates for nearly 1,000 institutions and more than 10 million students nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a tremendous honor and privilege to have been chosen for this prestigious group of leaders, and for such a pivotal time as this across higher education,\u201d said Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna, Monroe Community College President. \u201cI am energized to start advocating for MCC on a national level and to bring awareness to the work our College has done to lead the way in catalyzing bright futures for our community and its people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelected by their peers, the AACC Board of Directors are recognized leaders that bring a wealth of knowledge and an unwavering commitment to student success,\u201d said Walter G. Bumphus, president and CEO of AACC. \u201cTheir service on the AACC board will help to advance initiatives and ensure that the voice of community college leaders is clearly heard in matters related to federal policy and regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The AACC provides a national voice and advocacy for the community college mission. It serves as a national information resource by creating opportunities for peer networking and interaction at all levels, promoting professional initiatives, fostering dialogue, and building community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">###<\/p>\n<p><strong>About AACC<br \/>\n<\/strong>In service since 1920, the American Association of Community Colleges has aptly been called the \u201cvoice of America\u2019s community colleges.\u201d The association represents and advocates for nearly 1,000 associate-degree granting institutions enrolling more than 10 million students\u2014approximately half of all U.S. undergraduates. The nation\u2019s community colleges reflect the needs of the local community and provide accessible, affordable, and accredited higher education opportunities in both traditional and career education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About MCC<br \/>\n<\/strong>Monroe Community College (MCC), founded in 1961, is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) and is one of only ten community colleges nationwide participating in the Aspen Institute\u2019s Unlocking Opportunity Initiative. The College offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs, leading to a total annual impact of $915 million or 9,808 jobs supported, according to a 2022-2023 study.
