That first-hand experience made her acutely aware of the struggles that many MCC students face, especially those in underserved communities.

After becoming a Financial Aid Advisor at MCC, Meyer quickly noticed the unique challenges that many students encounter, particularly those dealing with homelessness or housing insecurity.

“Seeing their struggles resonated with me on a profound level,” she said. “I realized how crucial it is to have someone who understands their situation and can offer support.”

Meyer advocates for students by creating pathways for them to access the resources they need to succeed.

As a result of her efforts, Meyer received the MCC Champion award in 2023. This is a student-nominated recognition, given to those who have made a significant impact on the MCC community.

“Working with various organizations and campus resources to establish support systems has been incredibly rewarding,” said Meyer. “I feel honored to contribute to a community where I can make a real difference in the lives of those who are fighting for a brighter future.”

She added: “Watching students I have worked with walk across the stage is an incredibly emotional and heartwarming experience. MCC students truly amaze me. Despite the immense challenges they face—whether it’s financial instability, hunger, or the daily struggle of balancing school, work, and family—they show a level of resilience and determination that is nothing short of inspiring. This is what makes their journey so memorable to me. They persevere through obstacles that would overwhelm many, not only for themselves but often for their families as well. Seeing them reach this achievement, knowing the hardships they’ve overcome, fills me with such deep pride and admiration. Their success is a reminder of their strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to their future. It’s these moments that remind me why I do what I do, and why every effort is so meaningful.”

Meyer’s passion for helping people extends beyond MCC. She is an advisory board member of Spirit NYS. Their mission is to support the education of homeless and home-insecure teens by addressing the barriers they face, ultimately aiming to break the cycle of poverty.

Meyer graduated from MCC and received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Brockport. She has worked at MCC for 5 years.

Fun Facts About Nicole:

If you had to eat the same meal at least once a day, what would it be? Seafood

Is there anything about you that people are surprised to learn? Not really—I’m an open book!
