{"id":163,"date":"2020-05-19T15:12:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T15:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/?p=163"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:06:17","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T15:06:17","slug":"mcc-offers-fast-track-job-training-programs-as-region-begins-slowly-reopening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/2020\/05\/19\/mcc-offers-fast-track-job-training-programs-as-region-begins-slowly-reopening\/","title":{"rendered":"MCC Offers Fast-track Job-training Programs as Region Begins Slowly Reopening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Financial aid available for qualified individuals seeking careers as advanced manufacturing technician and medical office assistant<\/span><\/i><br \/><br \/><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">ROCHESTER, N.Y. \u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">As advanced manufacturing businesses reopen and the demand for medical professionals continues, two job-training fast-track programs offered at Monroe Community College are ready to prepare individuals for careers as a medical office assistant and a machinist technician.<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Participants in MCC\u2019s Accelerated Precision Tooling Certificate Program and Medical Office Assistant Program may be eligible for financial aid, due in part to funding support from Monroe County. Scholarship awards are also available.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">&#8212;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">The six-month\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/workforceforward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Flyer-cohort-11_PMA2-_-June-2020-Dec-2020.pdf\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Accelerated Precision Tooling Certificate Program<\/span><\/u><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0enables unemployed and underemployed Finger Lakes region residents to gain education and hands-on training in advanced manufacturing, earn a certificate in 23 weeks, and receive wraparound supports and career services.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Classes begin June 8 and are scheduled in the evenings, with the first 11 weeks to be completed via remote learning. The second half of the program, in which participants gain hands-on learning, is scheduled to begin in the fall 2020 semester at a location to be announced at a later date.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Precision machining skills are historically in high demand in the Finger Lakes region.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Of those who completed the program over the past six years, over 80 percent<\/span><b><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">received job offers from advanced manufacturers<\/span><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0or continued their education. Launched\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">in 2013\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">in response to the advanced manufacturing industry\u2019s immediate need for skilled workers<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">, the program will start its 11<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0class in June.<\/span><b><\/b><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Graduates can begin their careers as computer-controlled machine tool operators, machinists, and first-line production supervisors.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">&#8212;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Participants in MCC\u2019s 10-month\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/workforceforward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Med-Office-Assistant_Fall-2020_Aug20-May21.pdf\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program<\/span><\/u><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0learn specialized health care record-keeping procedures and use the same high-tech computer systems found in today\u2019s medical offices. In addition to developing strong technical skills, students learn to effectively communicate with patients and health care professionals and gain introductory knowledge of biology, medical terminology, drugs and emergency care.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">The program is cohort-based, allowing participants to attend every class together for the duration of the program. The model is focused on building a tight-knit learning community of peers who use one another as resources and collaborate on projects and in discussions.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Graduates can begin their careers in hospitals, private practices and dental clinics as administrative assistants, medical records and health information technicians, and medical record coders.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Classes begin in the fall 2020 semester at<\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">a location to be announced at a later date.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Deadline to register is Aug. 19.
