{"id":159,"date":"2020-05-26T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/?p=159"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:06:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T15:06:07","slug":"mcc-holds-celebration-of-scholars-day-inside-homes-across-finger-lakes-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/2020\/05\/26\/mcc-holds-celebration-of-scholars-day-inside-homes-across-finger-lakes-region\/","title":{"rendered":"MCC Holds Celebration of Scholars\u2019 Day Inside Homes Across Finger Lakes Region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Original, creative and scholarly works of over 50 students will be exhibited online for campus community to view; event includes tech\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">demos,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">research presentations,<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"color: #2f2f2f; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"> culinary experience<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Over 50 Monroe Community College students will showcase their original research and creative works in the college\u2019s first-ever\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">virtual<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"> Scholars\u2019 Day, scheduled for May 27 through June 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Unlike the past 11 years when MCC hosted a daylong program of poster exhibits and oral presentations in classrooms and campus spaces filled with guests, this year students have uploaded videos of their at-home presentations and images of their posters online for MCC members and their families to view.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Scholars\u2019 Day is one of MCC\u2019s highly attended events, with 140 presenters across disciplines competing for awards last year. The event provides a platform for students, faculty and staff to showcase their outstanding creative and scholarly works such as research and writing projects, theatrical performances, exhibits, symposia, panel discussions and robotics demonstrations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Some of this year\u2019s presentation topics include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Bridges to Better Living: Encouraging Wellness in the Rochester Community<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Drones designed and built by students<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">The Villain is the Hero of his own Story<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Thinking Small to Fight Big: Understanding Evolutionary Biology to Help Us Fight Disease<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Presentations are judged on originality, creativity, and the scholars\u2019 depth of understanding of the topic. Top presenters are eligible for $25,000 in scholarships, thanks to Monroe Community College Foundation supporters and the ESL Charitable Foundation.
