Thomas Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A &amp; B) on MCC\u2019s Brighton Campus, 1000 E. Henrietta Road.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1163\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1163\" class=\"wp-image-1163 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.monroecc.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/02\/Sabrina-LaMar-2019-200x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait of Sabrina LaMar, Monroe County Legislature president and MCC board trustee\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sabrina LaMar, Monroe County Legislature president and MCC board trustee<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Based on the event\u2019s theme \u201cIs There Anyone Right Left?,\u201d her speech will focus on the need for leadership. \u201cThe iconic leaders of the Rochester\u2019s past are gone, and we need new leaders to carry their torch and find solutions to today\u2019s problems,\u201d LaMar\u2019s office said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019d better be right because we\u2019re the only ones who are left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., will include poetry readings by MCC students and gospel singing.<\/p>\n<p>As County Legislature president, LaMar is the first and only African American woman to serve in that role in the county\u2019s history. She represents the 27th District, composed of Rochester\u2019s 19th Ward where she resides with her family, and has built a record on issues relating to mental health, child care, homelessness, and racial and gender equity. She was appointed and then elected to the Legislature in 2019 and re-elected in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Rochester, she serves as CEO of PUSH Publishing. She also works as\u00a0project coordinator for the Community Engagement to Reduce Victimization at Rochester Institute of Technology&#8217;s Center for Public Safety Initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>LaMar graduated from Rochester Business Institute. In addition to serving as vice chair for ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition, she is a member of the 19th Ward Association, African American Health Alliance, and Rochester Youth Violence Partnership.
